The basic premise of marker training is that you use a clicker (or a sound) to "mark" a behavior that you want.
The first thing you do with marker training is "charge it". Super simple to do - you click it and give your dog a treat. Do this ten times fast - lol! She will quickly catch on to the fact that "that sound" means food is coming!
Speaking of food, when you're training, use some really special treats! Find something that your dog goes wild for!
NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE OR LEARN TO EARN
Dogs do what works. If a particular behavior in a particular situation tends to result in Good Things For Dogs, then the dog is much more likely to stick to that behavior.
An example. A dog loves to be petted, so whenever you stop, they paw at you. You start petting them again to get them to stop. Your dog just trained you to pet them when they paw ;)
Remember, dogs do what works.
If the behavior doesn't get the results they want, then it's likely the dog will abandon that behavior for one that DOES work.
Set up your dog's life so that her good behavior consistently pays off for her and unwanted behavior does not, and you should have a delightful and well mannered companion.
"Your dog learns that the best way to get what he wants is to look at you and offer the canine version of saying please." ~ Jeff Silverman
